Where to stay for LGBTQ+ travelers
Florence may be famous for art, history, and romance, but it’s also an inviting city for LGBTQ+ travelers. Compact, walkable, and filled with charm, it’s easy to explore on foot — and just as easy to find a place that fits your mood.
The best area to stay for most visitors is the historic center. Around Piazza della Repubblica and Via Tornabuoni, you’ll be close to cafés, shopping streets, and the main sights. From here, it’s only a short walk to Florence’s small but lively gay nightlife scene. The popular bar Crisco Club sits near Piazza Santa Maria Novella, attracting a mixed, friendly crowd of locals and visitors. This neighborhood also puts you near cozy trattorias and late-night cocktail spots.
For a quieter stay, try the Oltrarno district on the south side of the river. It’s less touristy, filled with artisan workshops, and home to hip restaurants and cool aperitivo bars. It’s ideal if you like a more local feel but still want to reach the center in ten minutes.
The best time to visit Florence is spring or early autumn. April to June and September to October offer warm weather, lighter crowds, and golden evening light perfect for terrace drinks. Summer can be hot and packed, while winter brings cheaper rates and a more relaxed pace.
