Mykonos: Where to stay, party and play!

Mykonos is one of the most famous gay holiday islands in the world. It’s fun, sunny, and full of energy, but also comes with a reputation for being one of Greece’s more expensive destinations. For LGBTQ+ travelers, it offers beaches by day and clubs by night, with plenty of style in between.

The island is small but packed with charm. Mykonos Town, with its whitewashed alleys and waterfront cafés, is the social hub. Shopping, dining, and sunset cocktails all come together here, with views of the iconic windmills.

Beaches are the real draw. Super Paradise and Elia are the main gay hotspots, where sunbeds, beach bars, and turquoise water create long afternoons of relaxation that often turn into dance sessions. These beaches attract an international crowd, with many Greek and Italian guys giving the island a Mediterranean flair. Other beaches like Paraga and Psarou also pull in stylish sun-seekers.

Nightlife is what Mykonos is best known for. Evenings start in the town’s bars, with terraces filling up as the sun goes down. Later, clubs open and the energy keeps building until dawn. Drag shows, international DJs, and open-air dance floors define the scene. The island’s Pride festival and themed parties throughout summer keep the calendar full.

Mykonos is not cheap, but it’s one of those places where the atmosphere, beaches, and parties make the price tag worthwhile. For LGBTQ+ travelers, it’s a destination that combines beauty with fun, and where the party truly never ends.

Gay parties and events

Where to stay in Mykonos?

Most visitors stay in or near Mykonos Town, where the nightlife, shops, and restaurants are located. The narrow lanes are filled with boutique hotels, guesthouses, and stylish apartments. Staying here keeps you close to the action, though it can be busy in peak season. For a quieter experience, the beaches of Elia and Ornos offer resorts with sea views and more space, though you’ll need transport to reach nightlife.

High season runs from late June to early September. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months, when the island is full of international travelers and Mediterranean guys, especially from Greece and Italy. Parties and events peak during these months. May, June, and September are slightly calmer but still lively, with lower prices and better availability. Outside of summer, the island is much quieter, with many venues closed.

Gay beach at the south of the island: a current favourite for gay sun worshippers. On the one side of the beach you'll find a beautiful beach restaurant for lunch, at the other sides the rocks where the overheated cruise a bit. A little more action can be found more up the rocky mountain. Elia can be reached by bus (25 minutes from town) or via a very nice boat trip.

Beaches

Mykonos has some very nice beaches with blue, clear waters. You can reach them by 4x4 or scooter rental and walk along bumpy rocked roads. Or just get the bus from Mykonos town down to Plati Yalos and then jump on one of the little fishing boats that will drop you off at the individual beaches.

Travel combinations

Combine your travel to Mykonos with Athens, do a couple of days of sight seeing there, experience the Greek gay nightlife, and then do the beaches of Mykonos. The island Santorini makes also a beautiful combination, it has less gay night-life but is very nice place to relax.
