Every April, Amsterdam turns into Eurovision central for one weekend. A month before the main contest, ‘Eurovision in Concert’ gathers almost every act competing that year for a live preview unlike any other. The event takes place at AFAS Live, a 5,000-capacity venue next to the Ziggo Dome, and attracts fans from across Europe — flags, sequins, and all.
The show runs like a turbo-charged mini Eurovision. Each artist performs their contest song live, usually with full choreography, outfits, and the occasional wind machine. The energy is pure joy — a mix of nostalgia, nerves, and fan-fueled excitement. You can spot superfans comparing rankings, newcomers singing along, and whole groups waving country flags like they’re already at the final.
After the concert, the night continues. AFAS Live hosts the official afterparty, but the Eurovision vibe spreads all over the city. Gay bars in the center — from Reguliersdwarsstraat to Kerkstraat — turn into mini Eurovision stages with themed nights and drag hosts playing the hits until sunrise. It’s the perfect warm-up for the big show a few weeks later.
Eurovision in Concert has become the must-visit pre-party for die-hard fans and curious travelers alike. Expect strong vocals, questionable key changes, and a lot of love in the room. Bring your flag, your friends, and your loudest cheer — Amsterdam knows how to set the tone for Eurovision season.
