One of the most famous circuit parties in NYC. According to visitors the crowd is still amazing but Alegria has been losing his full glory. Presented by Ric Sena and featuring the biggest names in DJ land.
Alegria is always packed, always theme oriented, alwasy amazing (and expensive). Imagine a huge club with multiple levels and rooms with thousands of shirtless, hunky and horny men, fresh from the gym or a quick stop at G Lounge, ready to pop a pill (or something stronger and just as illegal) and dance all night to thumping music, an amazing light show, and the hottest bodies you will ever see anywhere. The crowd, not just the dancers. That is consistently Alegria.
Some may bristle at the steep door charge (~$75) and others will say it is worth every cent. Most guys are somewhere in between. But it IS an amazing spectacle at you have to go at least once.
I enjoyed the days when Alegria was at Crobar, but Webster Hall is a classic space with all the things you need to make a 10 hour party (11 p.m. until other NewYorkers are headed to the office) rememorable. Best to go on those holiday nights [Pride and Halloween are not holidays, no matter what they try to tell you] when the boys are ready for dance until the sun is up the next day.
It is a strong man indeed that could take dancing all afternoon and evening at the Pier Dance for NY Pride, then appear in the queue at Alegria shortly thereafter, but with assistance, anything is possible.
Globalaza's review is pretty much spot on and this place has not changed. I just attended Alegria Halloween 2011. The crowd is second to none - never seen so many hot muscled bodies in one place. It seems to get going at about 1.00am or so and I think was starting to thin when I left at 6.00am. Although there were still 6 hours to go, I was not going to last the distance. Music is more accessible than I'd thought - not too pots and pans, some vocals. The real thing, however, is the crowd: hot, muscled, friendly.
Globalaza recently returned to Alegria for "Casino Night' as the theme of the recent Labor Day festivities. I wanted to see the not-so new space at Webster Hall and to reconnect with my muscle boy fetish. The place did not disappoint!
Since Alegria is not a weekly event, and is geared toward holiday weekends (on Saturday now, not the previous Sunday nights), it is best to find out when the next event is and get your tickets online well in advance. One thing that has not changed about Alegria is the price: it is still an expense night. Casino Night was $60 online in advance, $80 at the door.
The boys are always breathtaking and the peacocks are in full bloom. Drug use is obvious and rampant so take that however you like.
The music is a mix of light dance with the latest mixes of the divas as well as the deep dark hard stuff we enjoy as the night turns to morning. Worth every penny!
Webster Hall itself is an odd space. Adequate for the task, but odd. A lot of levels, corners, areas hallways, stairwells and such. Easy to get lost or lose someone in the crowd. Good or bad, it takes some getting used to. Bathroom lines are a part of life at circuit parties. Fortunately, the owners put a bathroom on the main level [an innovation for those who visit Webster Hall frequently].
Most boys get there after 1 a.m. and by 2:30a.m. it's packed and the music is right on target. So plan you day and early evening with the plan to dance until the sun is up and your inhibitions are down, way down. Enjoy!
