Our favorite pride of the year!

Manchester Gay Pride is maybe not that well known, but according to Nighttours it is one of the best in Europe ! All bars and clubs are located in the Gay Village around Canalstreet. During pride the whole block is sealed off.
The Gay Village is a block of about 3x3 streets where most of the gay bars and clubs are located. Most of the bars are very large. There are packed street parties outside the main bars every day. Drinks are only sold only inside the bars, but you can take them outside.
There is a large outdoor stage set up, with lots of acts and performances from Friday night till Monday.
The main Saturday party is usually Uni Challenge, which consists of something like 7 areas.
Besides that there are several more dance and after parties, and also some leather and fetish parties during the weekend.
The gay village can only be accessed during pride weekend with a wristband, part of the money goes to charity. The wristband only access also keeps the area more safe.
The Parade is on Saturday afternoon. Best point to view it is on Princess street near Canal Street, there most gay guys will watch.
Check out our video section to get a better idea of what Manchester gay pride weekend is like.
You can buy weekend wristband in advance (usually about 15 pounds), or buy a day pass. When you buy a ticket online you must exchange it for a wristband. You can do that at several of the entrances to the Gay Village.
Ticket sales start a few month before the event, check their website:

Saturdays a big gay pride parade moves through the city.
Most gay pride activities are concentrated in the Gay Village, which is the area around Canal Street. It is very close to the railway station.
There are many hotels located in the area, and most of them get fully booked with gays and lesbians in the gay pride weekend.
Check our online hotel map to see hotels near the gay places. The map is centred around the Gay Village. Enter you arrival and departure dates to see actual prices and availability on the map:

Our favorite pride of the year!

Don't believe the hype. Only about 35,000-40,000 tickets are sold each year and the BBC reports 'tens of thousands' at the Saturday parade, many of whom are also people who have bought tickets. The parade route is only about 2,500 yards on fairly narrow streets. Just 12% of income from tickets and collections went to charity in 2007. That was £95,00 out of income of £803,000. In 2006 only £65,000 went to good causes. In the early 90's they were raising £65,000 from free events.

I have been a supporter of Manchester Pride for many years. Given the cost has gone up again this year I decided not to buy tickets in advance in case it was raining. Excited by the good weather I went to watch the Parade which was excellent this year. Then on to the Village. Unfortunately not so great. A totally chaotic cuing system for the second year running which for the price of £18:00 entry is quite frankly inexcusable. I decided to abandon and will just have to miss out this year which is a shame, but at least I wont feel like Im being totally ripped off!! I Went to Vienna Pride this year. Really good fun & 100% free!! Id be grateful if someone can enlighten me on the amount raised for charity also, which is approx £125,000. £18.00 x approx 200,000 people that attend = 36 Million (plus some sponsorship money) so where does the 35 Million or so get spent? (obviously not on well organised pay & entrance facilities).

Is it a Fri/Sat/Sun night weekend? Or just Sat/Sun? What are the big nights out?
I'll be there.. first time Manchester..... :D

Gay pride was brill last yr this yr will be soooo GREAT!!! it is unbalevablel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
