WE Party - Prison of Love - 28 Aug 2011 (Coronet Theatre, London)

WE had more to b.ichin celebrate than a bumper Bank Holiday weekend. What with the return of Latin-B.itch to London and the WE posters were enquiring “Have you been a naughty boy?” mmm our golden rule - What happens in Rio, stays in Rio! But it was also the birthday of a friend from Pride, so we had good reason to shake our ass and get down to The Coronet very fashionable early at 11.30pm. With just a few ahead of us in the queue, we were efficiently frisked through security and into the entrance hall and we were inside the Prison of Love with our chewing gum. Well nearly, with friend forgetting to print his ticket, then we had time for our prison mug shot to be taken – proving our height and our general fabulousness - as SeenQueen.com says, ‘if you got it, flaunt it’ and daaarling we got it!

No cloakroom queues here, although you don’t find many clubbers wearing cloaks these days, do you? In the upstairs coat check we swapped our bags and jackets for bits of yellow paper - not having to even remember our own initials, which can be lost in translation sometimes. S no F, Z no, no C, oh la la. Anyhow we then stayed at the bar on the top floor which is sensibly quiet to grab a drink and a natter and is probably a more sophisticated arrival than most VIP areas. Nicely refreshed, the entourage that is SceneB.itch, decended en masse down the staircases. Yes, we were already receiving admiring glances, as our buffed shirtless bodies grabbed the attention of the new arrivals going up as we were going down on them - stairs. We hit the main room, via the quieter entrance to the left of the bar, but the place was already jammed packed with hotness.

The bar decking was pumping with hot guys and our ‘Birthday Boy’ was gagging to dance, so was already grabbing us to join the sizeable crowd on the main floor – you know us being size queens after all ;-) But with tracks like “a Move a little closer, put your arms around me” it was certainly party music to get us moving and for the guys on the dance floor to start giving us those looks: “It's on your mind, It's written on your face, It's no surprise, To find you in this place” and with us replying via the music “Your wish is mine, So you don’t have to lie, You want it bad, So give my love a try”. Yes, “Your timing's right” and he was the “first in line” and had probably “made the right decision” and “Tonight’s the night, Lets slip and slide, Get ready to get crazy”. What a track to start the night off with...
“Just move a little closer, ya ya ya..
Dance until your feet catch on fire
Just move a little closer, ya ya ya..
I can feel you watching with desire”

OK, ok enough -- but it was fabulous playing with those guys and we’d only just arrived, this was set to be a hot night with Guest DJs Steve Pitron and Gonzalo Rivas supporting the WE resident Carlos Gallardo. So it was to be upfront and pumping vocal, uplifting, funky house the whole night long. The crowd also is full of eye candy and is a mixture of “Onyx to SuperMartXe to Salvation”. The Latino posse is strongly, and of course beautifully represented, but it’s a purely diverse international range – which makes London one of those great World cities of the United Gay Nations. And with the numerous vantage points to view these buff bodies at the Coronet then we were in our element.

At 2.00am on the dot (you can check my iPhone photo details!) it STARTED with Queen’s “I want to break free”, a magnificent stage set lit up with amazing digital panels that flashed images of dancers, national flags, all simply awesome with light effects and CO2 cannons straying down upon us and the dancers to the classic track “It's strange but it's true, I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure, When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free, baby
Oh how I want to break free,
Oh how I want to break free”

What a fab opening, and perfect words to hold onto each other and welcome Latino-B.itch back to London and for our Birthday Boy to get nicely acquainted with a BelAmi Boy from Prague :P

We went a wandering and again surveyed the chill out zones on the upper floors, but actually the first floor bar area had some classic house tunes playing and a sizeable crowd at times doing their thing – so we stopped for a drink – although were nearly jumped on by a guy as we sat down – apologetically he told us he thought they had left some stuff on the seats – jeez “Calm Down Dear!” and we did, and went upstairs to the balcony where we bumped into the cutest little blonde guy from the VirginActive. He keeps mysteriously working out on the steps in front of me and turning round to catch me surveying his ass. So that was a blushed hello smiles from me then, but he is titchy – height wise!!

Chilling on the front row of the balcony is a great way of staying in touch with the party and wow at 3.30am then it was glitter from the ceiling – with the PA diva hitting the stage once more – this is no prison of love no one wants to get out while this diva is singing. She was so enthusiastic and whipped the crowd into a frenzy [and we apologise that we can’t find her name anywhere]. And as she finished and the music struck up a harder beat the masses were still all frozen staring at the stage probably hoping for an encore but a modern twist of a classic came to the rescue with “Sundays at Heaven” getting us on our feet and seeing us dancing the socks of our balcony posing position, magical.

On our trip back downstairs we witnessed a toilet flood of biblical propositions in the main ‘womens loo’ blocked basins and blocked toilets – water everywhere – this is so unusual for The Coronet and the toilet staff had vanished quite early one – hopefully this is sorted out for future parties – they need to learn from the orderly toilet management at Area, Fire, Heaven etc and not run away from the problem – imagine dropping the soap up in there – jeez I would have no worries bending over to pick it up time and time again, unlike in your average Prison.

Oh and we need some of those ‘free’ Freedom Packs of condoms and lube handy in the loos – as I had to abandon and engagement with a cute Columbian guy as we had no protection. And we weren’t causing a queue at that time – we just had needs, safe needs!

By 5.30 friends were off to sleep off their tired dancing feet, we stayed to the end – around 6.30 it ended – not too abruptly with a crowd of a few hundred still on the dance floor and the lights went up every so slightly – not to overly scare everyone as to who they were dancing with.

We can safely say that WE Party is hot on the London scene and is doing its very best to keep outperforming itself. Long may it continue. SceneB.itch’s closing thought is only to the Coronet Management team get the toilets sorted! :P

Then it was the bus 344 to Vauxhall as this was Beyond ‘Big Top’ and we were expecting Tigers on the dance floor...

WE Heroes ‘Pride’ Party – 2nd July 2011 (Coronet Theatre, London)

Talk about b.itchin Pride excitement, ever since I’d seen the We-Pride advert at our We-Candy inauguration party then - Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need – Yes “1 City, 1 Pride, 1 night, 1,000,000 gay clubbers, 2000 tickets” ran the chaotic looking ‘kapow’ 1970’s Batman styled adverts. But we took the advice to heart and booked a Super-Early-Bird online ticket at only £10 (£11.50 with bf) – so we were already Heroes in our own minds.

We of course were also thinking it was the Pride official party. Ha, well it was the ‘official party’ for in tune, in tone, buffed up beauty parade of London clubbers but Pride announced with like a week to go that it was having its official ‘Liberation’ bash at Fire. Ha, well the marketing men ensured that the hottest of the hot were busy signing up to WE Heroes and donating to Pride and the occasional clubbers and out of towners were hopefully kept separate at their own party! Our only fear was a 2010-Pride heatwave but thank goodness we are blessed with this mediocre English weather and we had a fine but not humid day – otherwise the Coronet is prime ready to roast a load of latino chickens :P

Our friends were heading to WE Heroes at 11.30pm but since we had been Pride Heroes all day, then we just couldn’t get out of the bath – jeez did those legs ache – so with an ultra-fashionable 01.30 am arrival it meant there was virtually no queue, simple security and yes got in with my chewing gum!

Those same friends had been giving us anxious minute by minute GPS reports on where they were on the dance floor, bless them, but with our gaydar like instincts you can’t keep us away from the dance floor hotties spot for long.

The Coronet is one of our favourite venues for that super b.itchin pastime of cruising in the most sophisticated form – seeing and being seen – we don’t waste all that money down at Fitness First for nothing you know. The upper chill out areas were already chilled with hot bodies as we laid our coats with our favourite coat check pair and grabbed a drink and a gossip with someone who has been after me for years but baby you just gotta get taller, oh and cuter perhaps too, it isn’t as if I’m desperate is it now?

Down the stairways to the main arena and past the thongs of gorgeous Heroes parading their sexy bodies in the bar area, but descending the steps onto the dancefloor it was like a “Wills and Kate” moment when they left Westminster Abbey – the music lulled, the house lights went up and the gazes came our way – “oh hello darlings - The B.itchin Heroes are back – Let’s get this WE party started”. So it was on to join our gaggle of an entourage who were warming up the dance floor quite nicely and had attracted a number of hotties for us to inspect.

Our arrival was timed perfectly as at 2.00 am all our focus switched to the main stage when the lights dimmed and the music re-started with the infamous
Duu-duu-duu-duu...
Duu-duu-duu-duu...
Duu-duu-duu-duu...
Aaa-aaaa

Yes what a wonderful ever-so-gay Pride anthem with Bonnie Tyler’s infamous ‘I need a Hero’ lyrics being supported by a stage that then erupted into the most dramatic and electrifying light and pyrotechnic display I’ve ever seen – a truly memorising aural and visual feast of digital special effects and laser extravaganza - still with the lyrics of Bonnie Tyler pumping through our bodies – we literally stood memorised with “I need a hero, I'm holding out for a hero 'till the end of the night” as the lights revealed superhero dancers on podiums across the stage – yes this was going to be one Hero of a party with DJ Superhero Carlos Gallardo and London’s own superstar Hero DJ Pagano on the decks.

So we settled down dancing to take stock of this vibrant party and the advances we were getting but “It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet” – but then again this tall elegant French beau was dancing so exquisitely that for a brief moment I thought I had been overpowered by his dancing powers. But on going with us to the bar he turned out to be the sweetest guy we’ve ever....

A few super heroes had made the effort to dress up but no one is going to spoil our oiled and buffed bodies whatever – we wandered upstairs to witness a bustling couple of chill-out rooms and the fabulous balcony was back in action – so we took the weight off our feet and had the best seats in the house to witness the singing delights of Shawnee Taylor – where we also met some interesting out of towners who were spending most of their night in the upper circle watching the action down below – um cool guys.

Our final foray onto the main floor around 6.00 was of one still full of hot bodies embroiled with pumping upfront house with a nice Spanish twist and a few classic throw in - and the crowd were lapping it, and us, up nicely. But like all good things, it’s nice to slip out of them before they lose the magic it was a case of “Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?” – the French god was enquiring on our plans before planning his exit to Beyond and “There's someone reaching back for me” so Tall.Bitch picked me up in his Superman arms and we headed for the exit but “I could swear there is someone somewhere, watching me” but who knows?

That was a fabulous We-b.itchin evening with friends and Pride and Heroes all around – Yes, the WE Party was our Hero and thankfully the summer heat wave was no more so the Coronet proved a comfortable venue. The hot guys were there, the hottest music was booming and we were satisfied. So now we just need a hero for August Bank holiday, and we hope its WE party.
