This is one of the best Saunas in Europe. Clean and good service. Easy people, good manners and superb staff. If I have to say one negative point is the volume of the music downstairs. Do not hesitate to come.

Die Sauna ist absolut nicht zu empfehlen, mittlerweile macht man über ein Handtuch mehr Geld. Das heißt manmuß ein Handtusch nehmen obman will oer nicht ! wenn man es nicht will muß manes zumindetens bezahlen:-( ob wohl man es nicht Will eine Frechheit!!

I've been to Phoenix Essen, and it's the best sauna I have ever been to. Professional staff. Extremely clean facilities. A nice smoking area with telly. A duching facility (to flush your arse). Warm showers. Decent dry and wet saunas. Lush jacuzzi (water could be a bit warmer). Hot stones to lie on with relaxing music. And a huge maze of corridors and cabins and dark rooms.

There are no closing hours, so you can chill after a busy night of sex - and decide when it's time for you to go, rather than the sauna kicking you out in the cold.

I was Saturday night in Phoenix Cologne. I like it very much. A lot of hot young people, nice staff, very clean. I spent there wonderful time. I will come back to Cologne sure.

This is an amazing sauna!

The entrance is so-so with a mediocre locker room and a few toilets. There are many cruise areas downstairs with different looks - a large dark area, a private room hallway opposite a tiled pool area, a sexy shower area with annoying showers that turn off after 10 seconds, and a sexy wet sauna with two maze sections.

Upstairs is more like a health retreat with colour changing dry saunas, a nice room to just relax, and a bar/restaurant area with the most amazing food (i had a salad and it was huge)! Certainly didn't expect that when i looked at the entrance.

I went at some obscure hour but it was still busy :) A few hot guys with lots of average guys. Spoke to a few who said Essen was better, which is weird because Essen isn't really a tourist destination

I went to the sauna together with two friends, after excellent experiences with Phoenix Essen. But immediately upon arrival and walking down the stairs to the basement into the locker area, I got into trouble. People were SMOKING everywhere, and I'm quite asthmatic resulting in a shortness of breath - besides that is unhealthy. I expected that it was an incident, but walking through your facility I encountered many smoking men. All the 'this is a non-smoking area' signs confused me, so I asked the bar staff. They explained it was allowed to smoke in almost the whole basement, but 'upstairs' (basically, the bar and a small sauna) was smoke free.On their website and on some brochure comparing all Phoenix sauna's, it's not mentioned that smoking is allowed in almost the whole complex. Even more, both state that there is a "Smoking lounge", so I expected that smokers could smoke in there and outside of this lounge, smoking was not allowed.The sauna itself is quite filthy, with everywhere condoms and paper on the ground. It was quite cold, not pleasant if you're only wearing a towel. Compared to Phoenix Essen, Cologne is quite outdated. The men visiting the sauna were diverse, but most of them immediately grab your dick even before making contact. Not a very relaxed atmosphere.I couldn't stay there for long. I asked for a refund, but they said that that was not possible. It's better to visit another sauna in Cologne, or drive to Essen!

ik was er afgelopen Vrijdag van +- 16 uur tot de Zaterdag midag+- 14 uur,Super,Geil en gewoonweg Geweldig,veel leuke knullen,en erg schoon deze Sauna(Phoenix in keulen),yep!!!

was er wel eens eerder geweest,met een vrienden stel,en ook in Phoenix Sauna in Essen ook erg mooi en veel groter,en ook niets op aan te merken,
(alleen het Muziek staat er na mijn mening nogal te hard in de nacht vooral,(?),
is maar met de trein vanauit Maastricht 2 uur en 15 minuut,
overstappen i Heerlen en aken,en dan de tram2 of 7 na de Sauna,je bent er zo,en ik raad het echt aan,gewoon keer doen,
tevens als je denkt wil er wel heen gaan,ma niet voor een dag/nacht,
dat kan als je vrijdags in de Sauna gaat kun je blijven tot de Maandag morgen en dat voor een en de zelfde prijs(natuurlijk bij het verlaten van de Sauna en het weder terug komen na de Sauna betaal je opnieuw,na midernacht(kom je voor midernacht weer terug in de Sauna,dan kost het je niets,das natuurlijk altijd wel fijn natuurlijk he,toch,?,
was er Vrijdag en wilde ook langer blijven,maar na een vrijdag en de hele nacht en de Zaterdag morgen/voor midag,had ik het wel voor gezien gehad hoor,maar zeker voor herhaling vatbaar,zeker!!!

kwam eerst vaker in Amsterdam,maar deze sluit om 8 uur smorgens das is ook wel ok,alleen waar dan heen na 8 uur Zondags morgen,alles is dan al dicht,en om in deze kou(nu)op de straat rond te moeten lopen,no thanks,
deze Gay Sauna in AMsterdam(termos Sauna gaat weer open om 12 uur,dus,
en zeker ook de moeite waar(alleen vind ik deze niet al te schoon!!!
de Phoenix Sauna in Essen en Keulen word regelmatig door het Personeel grondig schoon gemaakt(moet ook wel omdat deze geopend is van vrijdag tot de Maandag morgen,toch,ja erg schoon,en vriendelijk Personeel,en heerlijk en goedkoop eten,hmmmmmmm!!!

Essen better.. Less attitude, and plenty of cute guys. Just go Friday night, maybe Sunday afternoon. Try to go when it is busy, it is very large and if it is empty, it will be a real bore. The phoenix saunas are always clean, very well designed and stylish. You will not be disappointed if you go during a busy time. You can always hang out outside, across the street and watch who is going in and out, doing that you will get an idea of what the clientele looks like and how busy it is. I always recommend doing this when going to a new sauna.

@ dude18yo: I would recommend to visit Phoenix in Cologne, because Essen is only a province town and you could be disappointed by the usual crowd there. If you really look so good (most guys tend to overconfidence), you will be attracted especially by much more older men than you. Young and good looking men are often bitchy, so you won't get those you want to get. Btw: I am in doubt, whether a gay sauna is the perfect place for first homosexual experiences. There it is not lovingly, but quite selfish and often callous.

Hey guys. I'm an 18-yo from Amsterdam. I've never had any experiences with saunas but I want to. Reading the reviews here really excites me. Is Phoenix in Essen similar to this? Cause it would save me a lot in traveling hours.
I'm unexperienced with guys, but I know that I'm pretty nice to look at. I've always been popular with the girls, and now I'm looking for something completely different. I'm tall, have a smooth body and there's nothing wrong with my dick. It's not just an experiment, I do feel attracted to males. The only problem is that I'm pretty shy around new men. I don't feel uncomfortable showing off my body, but for some reason I act like a nervous 12-yo girl when it comes to flirting with guys (ironically, I have no problem talking a girl into my bedroom).
Others who have been to Phoenix, will this be something worth the while for me? I would go somewhere more nearby, but I have trouble finding any positive comments about the Dutch saunas. One of the best saunas in Europe. I went for the friday night, sharing the nude party... great... not good looking men in general (maybe that friday) but I really loved the Sauna and Relax Area... Clean... some behaviour from GErman guys did not like it.. but.... in general great!!!

Rodney, please do not blame the incrowd if you get the message wrong. I go to Phoenix on a regular bases, and lucky me: I belong to popular crowd. Although this is also because of attitude, charm and other things that have nothing to do with age and fit - I can only imagine that the attention will get less over years. And so be it. When I am typing I only have the experience of being almost every bodies type. As a result I do have to reject loads and loads of people. Not that I LIKE to that, but if I am not clear in one way or the other, people won’t stop harassing me. Now, want I mean to say to you is that it is more likely your own mind that is playing games with you. Yes, you have been rejected - but only after making the wrong assumptions first. Now you can ignore this feedback, and blame ALL the other visitors for your bad experience - or you can try do have a different approach next time, using open and direct verbal communication with the people you meet. When you get the management of your own expectations right, you will be able to indentify your 'prospects' better. What you really should NOT do is compare yourself with those others of 50+ having a good time. I occasionally have sex with complete other types than my main course - everybody has that from time to time, but that is not indicator for others to assume that they can have go for it as well. I find it very offending sometimes that people have this assumptive approach and totally ignore my first not-buying signals. I choose the people that I have sex with, just like you choose yours. Most of the times I choose people for physical appearances. I am in the luxury position that the people I signal ‘BUY’ 90% of the time. Sometimes it stays vague, and blurry if the other person is signaling back. Don’t ask me why, I think this is all about the fear for rejection. My experience: when they are drop dead gorgeous the bigger the fear gets. And this is not very strange when you keep in mind that when you reject allot it feels a little uncomfortable to get rejected. If not clear I choose to just ASK so that I can manage my acceptations. Of course, when the answer is ‘no’ this is still a rejection, but with a total different feel that you get from the assumptive, non-verbal approach.
Sometimes I have sex with people that I like because of other qualities, but mainly because of the ‘click’ or ‘magic’ if you like. Understand this and you understand Phoenix. Phoenix does have a young population, no other sauna ‘s in Europe can compete. But this is also the way management runs their business: people that don’t fit the culture will be removed or will get rejected the next time they visit. Phoenix aims for a beautiful young crowd, that’s why all the mirrors and other high powered facilities are there. Their marketing approach and how they run their business should really tell you what customers they would like to attract. E.g they organize theme parties on certain days, from youngster parties to bears meetings. So also from this you would be able to determine on forehand whether or not you would be able to blend in. I still do not get WHY someone over 50+ would come to a youngster party. You don’t see me going to chubby or bear days. Only if you were fan of a certain group of course. But if that is the case, you should always have in mind that you most likely won’t get the attention you preferably would have, because the people you meet are more likely a fan of their own species if you understand what I mean.
In short: stop thinking with your dig – manage your exceptions better and don’t be childish about getting rejected or not fitting in by blaming everyone else but yourself.

I liked the modern feel of the sauna. It was also very clean. I don't think it mainly attracts young local boys, but there were some really good looking boys there. I ended up having sex with one of the cute and adorable bartenders. So, there goes another star! All in all, I think it is worth checking out.
