When to go

The best time to visit Barcelona is in spring, or end of summer. In mid summer it’s a bit too hot. Best is to combine your stay with a few days in Sitges (half an hour by train from Barcelona).

Where to stay

In the gay area: Universitat.

Travel tips

You can take the train from the airport to the city, and use the metro. But expect lots of staircases. Taking a taxi is usually the best when you have heavy luggage!

Where to go

The famous Ramblas will take you from the boulevard into the city center. East of you’ll find the oldest part of the city, Barri Gotic. Here you’ll find a neighborhood full of narrow streets and allies, typical tapas bars, designer shops and tourist restaurants. Passing by the famous Teatre Liceu, the Ramblas ends on the majestic Placa de Catalunya.

Walking further, you end up at the huge boulevard Passeig de Gracia. This is the place for big malls and exclusive fashion shops. This is also the street where Barcelona’s most famous inhabitant, Gaudi, built some of his extraordinary houses. Gaudi was also the architect of the landmark of the city, the Sagrada Familia. This cathedral has been under construction since the early 19th century!

Other interesting parts of the city are Barceloneta (where you can enjoy the sea view and the local beach boys), Montjuic (the mountain with the Olympic stadium) and the famous Parc Guell (also designed by Gaudi). This parc in the north of city is a must see for lovers of architecture, bushes and hidden caves. And hey, aren't we all?
