Downtown is a small gay lunch room and coffee bar right in the gay steret Reguliersdwarsstraat.
In summer they have a nice sunny terrace on the side from where you can see the guys walking up and down the street. Popular meeting place during daytime (after shopping or around lunchtime). They don't have an alcohol license.
How fast can life be, besides the very uncertain situation for the gaybars in the Regulier after the suicide of Kooistra today, this will be also a very complicated situation for DownTown.
Why are people still visiting this place?? Yes the coffee is good, yes Edwin the tenant knows how to make good tasting food. The only thing is, he is there not that often to make sure everything is served the way it should be. And when he is there he behaves like a idiot, not only by yelling at his staff (unfortunatly he kicked out Patrick, just like he did with many before)he can be very rude to the clients also. For me, after visiting this place many times in the past, i am finished wit DownTown. Edwin does 'nt seems to understand that clients first of all need to be treated like a guest instead as a victim. Being polite and modest is not so difficult i think. DownTown, owned by Kooistra, will probably be dragged in the dissaster where the Regulierstraat is in now with closing of the Exit, April and probably the Soho. At the end, everything will be solved with Heineken after the possible bankruptcy of Kooistra so the new owner of DownTown hopefuly finds a better tenant.
